Kent House is currently accepting applications for Camp Kent House which will be held on July 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th. The theme this year is "Life on a 19th Century Farm". The schedule for each Friday is as follows:

July 9, 2010: Garden/Bug Day - Learn about good-bugs and bad-bugs and how honey bees helped with crops as well as provide honey for farm families. Learn about what they grew and how the farmers used their crops. Campers will actually plant seeds in the Kent House Kitchen garden as well as in a pot for a take-home project.

Southern Chevrolet will be providing free hot dogs for all in attendance that evening.

Cane River Green Market end of the summer season celebration

NATCHITOCHES – Cane River Green Market, Natchitoches’ local farmers market, will end the 2010 summer season on July 31 from 8 a.m. to noon on the downtown riverbank.

The farmers market will have live music by The Back Porch Band from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Back Porch Band plays traditional Celtic and folk music.

Market attendees can also enjoy a kid’s inflatable jumper, face painting and discounted market merchandise such as t-shirts and koozies. Mighty Max Superdogs will also be onsite Saturday.

VILLE PLATTE – The Louisiana Office of State Parks is opening two new deluxe lodges at Chicot State Park that will be available for overnight accommodations beginning on Tuesday, August 3.

“Chicot State Park is one of our most popular parks, with over 150-thousand visitors annually,” said Dr. Stuart Johnson, Assistant Secretary for the Office of State Parks. “Needless to say, overnight facilities there stay booked up. This addition to the park will benefit visitors for many years to come.”

The Association of Louisiana Bass Clubs (ALBC) and LSU Alexandria will sponsor a bass tournament Aug. 14 on Red River, announced Dan Touchet, ALBC president. The payout will be 70 percent to winning teams and 30 percent for LSUA scholarships.

A 6 a.m. launch and the 3 p.m. weigh-in will be at Colfax Public Landing on Red River. The entry fee is $150 per two-person team. A late entry fee of $200 will apply after an Aug. 9 registration deadline. Entry forms are available at LSUA and area sporting goods stores.
